About the role
At Pugpig we believe that being a product developer is about more than simply writing and shipping code. You will be a crucial part of achieving our mission to be the world’s best mobile publishing platform. That means helping to conceive solutions to our customers’ problems, evaluating their feasibility, and seeing them through to adoption - always learning along the way.
You’ll work as part of our cross-functional team, including product management, design, product insight and QA. Due to the nature of our platform this role encompasses web, native and backend technologies, although you may naturally end up focussing more on one part of our stack as you develop in the role.

We work in close partnership with our customers to conceive, evolve, customise and operate our platforms, so they can focus on their core business.
Our platforms power hundreds of apps for the biggest media brands in the world, including The Independent, New Scientist, The Spectator, Condé Nast, Reach, DMG Media, Boston Globe, Hearst and many more.
We work with news media, consumer magazines, B2B publishers and membership organisations.
Our teams in London and New York offer deep expertise and support to customers around the world.
Our tech stack
We have native client apps for iOS & Android, written in Swift and Java/Kotlin respectively
We also have a web client written in Vue.js
Our backend is predominantly PHP, with WordPress as the CMS powering our apps
Our infrastructure is all AWS, with Fastly as our CDN

Job requirements
About you
You’re curious and passionate about technology and understand what it means to be a SaaS organisation. You have an interest in media and publishing, and can get to grips with our products and services quickly.
You’ll ideally have 6 months to 2 years experience working as a developer (part of which could be an internship or placement) and be able to demonstrate your technical chops through projects you’ve worked on (this can include personal projects or ones you’ve completed as part of your education). Experience in any of the technologies listed below under ‘our tech stack’ would be a bonus.
You’re also a strong and confident communicator, with a forward-thinking, problem-solving approach. You’ll be able to spot opportunities to develop and improve our processes, and be keen to take responsibility for this. You’ll be able to prioritise and manage your workload effectively, knowing how to work out what requires your attention first, and being able to respond efficiently. You have a desire to learn continuously, are quick to pick up new skills and you’ll be able to use your creativity to overcome challenges.
You’ll have these skills and qualities:
Technical literacy and hands-on experience developing software, ideally across mobile apps
Experience with version control tooling such as git
An interest in and understanding of how products interact with each other, both superficially and through the underlying systems
Can work independently and use initiative to figure things out
Great attention to detail with a helpful, can-do approach to work
Willingness to learn and develop new skills quickly
Ability to be flexible to changing priorities
Enthusiasm for improving our documentation
Detail-oriented, inquisitive and can ask incisive questions confidently
These would be a bonus:
An interest in automated testing
Experience with IDEs such as Xcode, Android Studio or IntelliJ
Experience with issue tracking software such as Jira
