Product Designer

United Kingdom, , LondonProduct

Job description

About the Role
As Pugpig’s product designer you’ll work with teams across the business to help shape the experience of our products and platforms. You’ll be deeply enmeshed in the development process and work with features from conception to delivery, as well as taking a step back and looking at the holistic design philosophies and systems behind what we do. Your work will ensure our products are not only functional and intuitive, but also beautiful, polished and delightful.

Key responsibilities:

  • Be there from the very beginning of discussions around new features or improvements and championing design throughout the process
  • Provide design specifications, resources and guidance to the development team to help bring features and other changes to fruition
  • Engaging with our testing processes to ensure what we ship looks as a good as it should
  • Talking to highly-engaged customers and seeking to understand their goals, and working to align that with our product capabilities
  • Identifying existing issues or potential improvements, suggesting solutions, and arguing for their prioritisation
  • Making sure accessibility is explicitly included in our decision making and design, and that our products exhibit a high standard of useability
  • Engage with users to understand their experience of using our products and use this information to grow and improve them

About working at Pugpig

  • We’re a very sociable company and can often be found in a local rooftop bar sharing stories over a drink – especially on Fridays when we finish at 4pm (and 2pm on Summer Fridays)
  • We have an annual training and conference budget
  • You’ll have an annual bonus which is half based on company performance and half personal
  • As of December 2021 we’re back working from home, but we’ll return to working in the office (in central London) starting two days a week once it’s safe to do so.

About Pugpig

  • We believe that publishing is important and that it has a great future
  • Our purpose is to power the publishing platforms that will help secure that future
  • We do this by working in close partnership with our customers to conceive, evolve, customise and operate our platforms, so they can focus on their core business
  • Our platforms power hundreds of apps for the biggest media brands in the world, from The Economist, Condé Nast and Gannett, to News Corporation, Hearst and Tortoise and many more
  • We work with news media, consumer magazines, B2B publishers and membership organisations

Job requirements

  • You have 2-5 years’ experience working as a product designer, and have examples where your work has made a difference in the real world
  • It would also be advantageous if you have experience with:
    • Mobile apps
    • WordPress (or any other CMS)
    • Jira (or similar tools)
    • Basic Google Analytics
    • InVision
    • Sketch
    • Figma
    • Adobe AfterEffects
  • You’re interested in publishing and like engaging with content
  • You’re happy working in a very busy, buzzy environment and are adept at juggling multiple priorities at a time
  • You’ve got experience dealing directly with developers and have enough technical understanding to (within reason) predict and understand problems they might face
  • You’re driven and self-motivated, with a desire to be the go-to person for design and UX
  • You have a desire to learn continuously, pick up new skills and get to know new technologies
